Labour’s shadow home secretary and LFI parliamentary supporter Yvette Cooper MP has today welcomed the government’s announcement that it would lay a draft order to proscribe the Hizb ut-Tahrir organisation as a terror group.
Hizb ut-Tahrir is an Islamic fundamentalist group with an ideology rooted in antisemitism, anti-Zionism and anti-Western sentiment.
Cooper said:
“There have long been serious concerns about Hizb ut-Tahrir, which have been exacerbated in light of Hamas’ barbaric terrorist attack on Israel on 7 October.
“It is right that the government has looked urgently at the evidence and intelligence information available to them about the threat posed by Hizb ut-Tahrir, and we welcome and support the decision to proscribe them.
“Those who incite violence and promote or glorify terrorism have no place on Britain’s streets and must face the full force of the law.”
