LFI chair Steve McCabe MP and LFI parliamentary supporter Christian Wakeford MP have this week joined the March of the Living 2022, an annual Holocaust memorial event that culminates in a march between the site of the Nazi German death camps at Auschwitz and Birkenau in Poland.
The four-day trip began in Warsaw with visits to the site of the Warsaw Ghetto and Polin Museum of Jewish history in Poland.
Steve and Christian also visited the towns of Sandomierz and Dabrowa Tarnowska to learn about Jewish life in the towns before the Second World War, and paid their respects at the site of the mass killing of Jews and Poles at Zbylitowska Gora near Tarnow. They also visited the Jewish Cultural Center in Krakow to learn about the re-birth of Jewish culture in Poland since the fall of communism.
In Kraków, Steve and Christian visited the site of the Krakow Ghetto and Plaszow concentration camp, before touring the site of Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. Here, they heard testimony from a number of Holocaust survivors about their harrowing experiences. That evening, Steve jointly lit a candle in memory of the six million victims of the Holocaust.
On the final day, Steve and Christian took part in the March of the Living between Auschwitz and Birkenau, before attending a moving memorial service.
