At today’s debate on statutory instrument Iran (Sanctions) Regulations 2023 (S.I., 2023, No. 1314), LFI vice-chair John Spellar MP once again pushed the government on the need to proscribe the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps as a terrorist organisation.
John asked: “The Minister mentions individuals with the revolutionary guard, but what about the revolutionary guard itself?”
He later went on to ask: “But should we not be proscribing the IRGC, as in the end we had to with Hezbollah? […] I thank the hon. Gentleman very much. Is there not an understanding that the Home Office and successive Home Secretaries have wanted to proscribe the IRGC against resistance from the Foreign Office?”
